A few days ago in miniature Polish group on FB one of the girls posted this touching article. In a way it is about a miniture so let me try to translate it for you.

If anyone doesn't know: Auschwitz concentration camp was built in Oświęcim by German nazis in 1940 to imprison Poles. In 1942 also German nazis built Auschwitz II-Birkenau which became a place of Jews extermination (Shoah). After the end of II WW in 1947 Auschwitz and Auschwitz-Birkenau became the Aushwitz -Birkenau State Museum.

Batsheva Dagan(born Izabela Rubinstein) was born in Łódź in Poland. When the Nazis invaded Poland she and her family escaped to Radom. There they got to a ghetto and she joined Hashomer Hacair, a secret Jewish youth organisation. On behalf of this organisation she visited Warsaw ghetto many times bringing Radom's gazette "Pod prąd"(Against the tide). In 1942 she escaped from ghetto and got to Germany but after a few months she was captured and sent to German nazis' Auschwitz Birkenau concetration camp. She stayed there till the beginning of 1945, then she and other prisoners were moved to Ravensbrück, later - again - to Malchow. On May 2nd, 1945 she and prisoners were liberated by British Army. After the war she left for Palestine and there married Paul Dagan.

All her life in Israel she was teaching children about Shoah and all her life she was keeping her very personal keepsake close.

When she was in Aushwitz Birkenau she met German Jew who was married to German policeman and had a daughter. From her family she was the only one imprisoned in German Nazis concentration camp. As Batsheva describes her: "She was swarthy and had sad eyes. She was sad and she was telling how she missed her daughter and was thinking if she ever leaves the camp. And she was the one who made me a surprise. She made me these slippers. She said: "May they carry you to freedom."".

The shoes are 1cm long, made of leather sewn with thread. Batsheva was hiding them for 20 months. She was carring them in her pants. She found the safety pin and during delousing she was pinning the shoes to the paillasse.

After the war there were many museums which wanted to have this keepsake for themselves but Batsheva decided to donate them to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum. She said: "they were born here, so they must be here".

Rococo Lady. Rokokowa dama.

My latest commission was not that easy one but quite a lot of fun to do.

My customer asked me to make a doll dressed in Rococo style.
She had sent a few photos of what she wanted a doll to be dressed in but couldn't decide what to choose. Finally she asked me to ... surprise her.

The only condition was the outfit should be kind of modest, proper both for home and for a stroll and there should be a bonnet and a hat. Well, as much as I love when people ask me to make something I haven't done before this time I wasn't not so sure of this challenge.

Luckily I have a few books about history of fashion home, I also looked through a lot of interesting webpages and blogs and quickly found an answer what was worn by 18century ladies both home and outside.

So the doll got (except for the underwear of course ;) ): a white skirt and a jacket called casaquin or caraco - actually I think there could be a big difference in between these two first, but according to my books the names were used alternately.

Under the fichu - neckerchief - on her shoulders there is also an "embroidered" stomacher.

 I made shoes too, maybe I overdid them with their ornaments a bit, lol.

Her hair is based on many poritraits of young Rococo ladies and also a bit on photos of the Duchess movie.

Finally the bonnet - which had to be big enough to cover doll's hair not spoiling it.

And the hat.

It was fun to do and I've learnt a lot about the 18th century fashion. Hope you will like her as my customer does.

Najnowsze zamówienie nie było proste, niemniej bardzo interesujące.

Moja klientka poprosiła o przygotowanie rokokowej damy. Jednakże pomimo przesłania kilku interesujących grafik XVIII wiecznych strojów nie umiała wybrać tego, który najbardziej się jej podobał.

Ostatecznie poprosiła mnie, żebym ją zaskoczyła uwzględniając to, że strój powinien być odpowiedni zarówno do domu jak i na wyjście, a w związku z tym, żebym przygotowała również czepek i kapelusz na obie okazje.

Przewertowałam zarówno moje książki o historii mody, jak i wiele ciekawych stron w internecie i dość szybko znalazłam stroje odpowiadające powyższym warunkom.

Lalka, poza oczywistą bielizną, ma na sobie białą spódnicę oraz żakiet zwany z polska kazakinem(casaquin) lub craco - oba żakiety na pewno różniły się czymś gdy wprowadzono je do świata mody, jednakże wg moich książek później obu nazw używano zamiennie.

Pod chustą zwaną fichu znajduje się "haftowany" bawet. Oczywiście lalka ma też odpowiednie buty - mogłam co prawda odrobinę przesadzić z ich zdobieniami. ;)

Fryzura została zainspirowana portretami z epoki i zdjęciami z filmu Duchess.

Czepek jest na tyle duży żeby nie uszkodzić fryzury, a tai rodzaj kapelusza na szczęście nosiło się z przodu głowy.

Sporo się nauczyłam o rokokowej modzie podczas wykonywania tego zlecenia i mam nadzieję, że lalka się Wam spodoba.

The Shoe Model. Modelka butów.

She is a twin sister of my sleeping half doll you may still remember.
She is not an easy going doll. ;)
For she had her own vision who(or what ;) ) she wanted to be...

I had planned her to be a gift for a friend but while I was dressing her up she didn't like what I made for her and she talked the fabric to ... not to listen to me at all, lol! So I gave up and worked with her 'half-sister' first.

Then I thought I should dress her up a bit similar to her half sister. But  the dressed doll looked like she wanted to say these laces just were so not for her. I put the doll to the box as she was with painted face, put together, with none of the hair.

And then when I made chaise longue I knew I needed something more to it.
I heard quiet knocking from that box. She looked at chaise longue and I think she liked it as suddenly she started to cooperate soooo well!
While she was sitting ready on the chaise longue she said she wants shoes. But not a pair of them ... She said she wants to have a lot of... shoes!
That's how she's became a shoe model....

Although my shoes are not perfect as yet she seems to enjoy looking at my "funny" efforts. ;)
I will use her to make removable doll shoes.:) First pairs you can see below, they are not perfect that's why the photo is small, lol!

Her skirt is made of a man's tie.
I had only a poor pieces of  viscose in few colours left which weren't enough to make her one-colour wig so she's got four colour wig. ;)

To jest siostra bliźniaczka mojej pół-lalki, którą może jeszcze pamiętacie.
To nie była "łatwa" lalka, bo miała wizję tego kim(a raczej czym) chce być.

A miała być prezentem dla koleżanki. Niestety gdy zobaczyła w co miała być ubrana, namówiła materiał, żeby mnie w ogóle nie słuchał. ;)

Potem pomyślałam, że może lepiej by było gdyby była ubrana jak jej "pół-siostra".  A jednak poddałam się, bo ubrana w koronki wyglądała jak 7 nieszczęść. Trafiła więc z powrotem do pudełka.
I czekała tam sobie aż powstał szezlong. Czegoś mi do niego brakowało.

I wtedy usłyszałam ciche pukanie dochodzące z pudełka. Obejrzała szezlong i chyba jej się spodobał, bo nagle zaczęła ze mną współpracować! Kiedy już była gotowa i spoczywała sobie na szezlongu zachciało jej się butów. Ale nie pary butów. Tylko wielu par!
I tak została modelką butów.;) I chociaż moje buty wciąż jeszcze nie są doskonałe, to wydaje się, że bawi ją oglądanie moich wysiłków. ;)
Spódniczka powstała z męskiego krawata, a włosy w 4 kolorach są wynikiem tego, że miałam same resztki wiskozy i z żadnego pojedynczego koloru nie powstałaby cała fryzura.;)

Mam nadzieję, że spodoba Wam się moja mała scenka do ćwiczenia się w robieniu zdejmowalnych lalczynch butów. ;)

A Few New Details in The Little Blue Rhapsody. Trochę nowy detali w Błękitnej Rapsodii.

I finished  my Little Blue Rhapsody over a year and 8 months ago. Left it as it was and it seemed I was quite pleased with it.
Yet everytime I was looking at it I was feeling the inside of this small lantern was kind of... empty or unfinished.

When I was finishing work on Laundry on The Backyard I already knew I needed to add some small touches to the Rhapsody, specially because I wanted to take both lanterns with me to my show.

I loved the light fixture with Sans candles inside so much I decided to keep it for another and only-for-me project and changed it for DHE battery operated classic floor lamp. But honestly I hated  original lampshade so added a bit of ribbon and lace there.

 

I also added net curtains high above the arm chair.

Then I thought of giving the scene a little bit of "life".  First I filled the table top with dark blue book and blue-white cup with saucer (after all this is a Blue rhapsody.;)) so that the scene looked like someone has left a second ago. And I thought about a piece of something sweet to eat. I loved Drora's idea how to make a Ferrero candy but had none home so decided to try making something that resembled a little macarron instead.;)

Quite suddenly I thought about shoes but only of high heels and made a pair.

So where is the other one - I hear you ask. Here. Can you see it?

And now?

No? So maybe now....

Now you see who took it so far away...

But it was not one kitten but two! LOL!

And now I think this scene is complete.:)

 I think it's fun when you can see the whole scene from every side and  with each side you can find something different.

For kids who came along with their parents to my vernissage I had a little riddle: they were looking for animals and shoes among or in my miniatures. And I think it was fun for them too.;)

Zdarza Wam się pracować po raz kolejny nad czymś co skończyliście już dawno temu?
Tak właśnie było z moją Błękitną Rapsodią. Skończyłam ją ponad 20 miesięcy temu a ciągle wydawało mi się, że czegoś w niej jeszcze brakuje....
Jak już skończyłam pracę nad Praniem postanowiłam dodać to i owo do Rapsodii, żeby ją trochę "ożywić".
Na początek zmieniłam oświetlenie: moją własnoręcznie zrobioną latarenkę zamieniłam na standardową lampę stojącą na baterię z DHE, ale za nic na świecie nie podobał mi się klosz, więc dodałam do niego wstążkę i koronkę.
Po niej przyszedł czas na firanki po obu stronach fotela, a potem na drobiazgi na stoliczku, oczywiście niebieskie ;), książkę, opróżnioną już filiżankę i ciasteczko.
Chciałam, żeby wnętrze latarenki wyglądało jakby ktoś właśnie na chwilę wyszedł. Pewnie dlatego pomyślałam o klapeczkach, koniecznie na obcasie. Tak... tylko gdzie jest drugi...?

Tutaj się schował! A raczej ktoś go schował... i to nie jeden ktoś.;)

Wydaje mi się, że w końcu Rapsodia wygląda jak trzeba. Myślę, że fajnie jest jeżeli każda strona scenki wygląda inaczej i można doszukać się ciekawych czy zabawnych szczegółów.

Dzieciaki, które przyszły na wernisaż z rodzicami, dostawały ode mnie zadanie odgadnięcia ile w lub pomiędzy miniaturami można zobaczyć zwierząt i butów.;) I chyba im się takie odgadywanie podobało.;)

Details in Blue. Drobiazgi na niebiesko.

I have done a few pair of shoes on dolls feet before but these are first without dolls.
They are in blue as I am changing one of my projects and they just had to be in this colour, lol!

I thought of high heels but was not sure how to make soles. So I started with flip flops.

I was quite pleased of them but couldn't stop thinking of high heels.... I even tried to carve the soles from wood, lol. But they just broke in few places when I was polishing them...
And then I bought a glue - which is of course of none importance here - but it's wrapping is made of thick cardboard which nicely bends. And that's how the high heels were born. ;)

Making so small fluffs were not easy but fun.:)

And yes! My first ever hand made food. Does it look like a little macaroon? ;) I hope so!LOL!

W przeszłości zdarzyło mi się już robić buty na nogach lalek, ale te są pierwsze bezlalkowe.;)

Dziś wszystko na niebiesko, bo zmieniam jedno wnętrze i tylko taki kolor tam pasuje.;)

Od początku myślałam o obcasach, ale za bardzo nie wiedziałam z czego zrobić podeszwy więc wybrałam prostsze rozwiązanie - klapki.
Jednak obcasy nie dawały mi spokoju - nawet próbowałam je wyrzeźbić w drewnie, ale podczas szlifowania podeszwa pękła w kilku miejscach.
A potem kupiłam klej - choć oczywiście nie o niego tu chodzi - w kartonowym opakowaniu. Karton jest dość gruby, ale łatwo się wygina. I tak powstały podeszwy na obcasie.:)
Zrobienie puszka w tej skali okazało się całkiem niezłym wyzwaniem.;)

A na koniec moja całkiem pierwsza próba zrobienia miniaturowego "jedzenia". Jakby ktoś się pytał to miał to być makaronik. Podobny? ;)

She's not a brand new doll. She's also one of the three dolls that took part in GAP for Minidollist.
I always wanted to re-dress her. So finally I did. The shoes and hair is all that stayed. Oh, and a part of her Svarovsky necklace too.

This photo is the only one that shows her tiny waistline.

I love her back, really nice sculpted.

Lalka nie jest nowa. Jako jedna z trzech wzięła udział w GAP Minidolllisty. Zawsze chciałam zmienić jej strój no i w końcu to zrobiłam. Buty i włosy pozostały takie jak były. Część jej naszyjnika też.;) Bardzo podobają mi się jej plecy - pięknie wyrzeźbione. Jak Wam się podoba w tym wcieleniu?

The December Girl and Wishes to my Friends! Grudniowa Dziewczyna i życzenia!

Finally managed to make something again.;)
Well, to be honest she's not completely done yet. I need to find her a nice stand and work on her shoes and maybe a veil a bit but ... I couldn't wait to show her to you!
It was my first work on taffeta-like fabric and it was not that easy but overall I am quite pleased with the result.

The make up is not made by me and she's one of the RAK doll, so if you look close you'll find some seams and holes here and there.

This is my third bride....I wonder why? LOL! I think there is something about long elegant dress that makes woman feel special, maybe that's why I like to make wedding dresses from time to time.

As you can see she stands on her own. If she wants that is... ;)

Have you already guessed what inspired me to make this dress?;) Yup, it is an old Guns'n'Roses video to their song: November Rain.:) I guess I was carring this dress in my head for a long time, I still remember I was quite surprise to see the shape of the skirt and it made an impression on me.

That's not a nice thing to look under the skirt,lol, but I wanted to show you she's wearing also a blue garter.:)

W końcu udało mi się coś "stworzyć".;) Co prawda nie jest to dzieło całkowicie skończone, muszę znaleźć jej jakąś podstawę, popracować nad butami i welonem, ale nie mogłam się już doczekać, żeby Wam ją pokazać!
Pierwszy raz pracowałam z materiałem w rodzaju tafty i nie była to prosta sprawa, ale w sumie jestem zadowolona z rezultatu. Makijaż nie jest zrobiony przeze mnie, a jeśli się przyjrzycie dokładnie, to znajdziecie też błędy w porcelanie, ale nie ma co narzekać na coś co się dostało w prezencie.;) To moja trzecia panna młoda. Czasem się zastanawiam co jest w sukniach ślubnych, że chętnie je robię? Czy już się domyślacie co mnie zainspirowało? Tak! Wideo do piosenki November Rain Guns'N'Roses! Pamiętam, że byłam całkowicie zaskoczona zobaczywszy krój spódnicy w tej sukni. I jakoś ten widok "chodził" za mną dopraszając się wykreowania czegoś podobnego w miniaturze.;) Lalka ma nawet niebieską podwiązkę. Bukiecik częściowo z kwiatków, które dostałam od Sans!. Mam nadzieję, że się Wam moja grudniowa panna spodoba! A korzystając z okazji chciałabym wszystkim złożyć najserdeczniejsze życzenia radosnych i wypełnionych miłością Świąt Bożego Narodzenia i Szczęśliwego Nowego Roku! Dziękuję Wam za to, że jesteście moją nieustającą inspiracją!

It was also one of the first things we saw in Łeba.

It is not even a big place but it has it's own very low old town.

But of course Łeba is a tourist mecca, well known for it's flat and long beaches.

The castle-hotel was built in 1905.

While walking to the other beach we stopped by an art gallery and I couldn't believe I found...miniatures! LOL!

A word of explanation: Łeba lies near The Lighthouses Route and we could see all of them in one place and in miniature!

Łeba jest niedużym turystycznym miasteczkiem, ale ma swoje własne stare miasto i piękne płaskie plaże. Hotel-zamek został zbudowany w 1905 roku. No i nawet udało mi się znaleźć miniatury! Łeba znajduje się niedaleko Szlaku Morskich Latarni a tu były wszystkie w jednym miejscu!
