Wrocław part 2 - dwarfs, dolls, animals....

.... that means the photos of the Old Town:)
The window of the Town Hall

Jatki street is my most favourite street in this city. This short street's name in English is shambles and for everyone to remember what was happening there these sculptes/casts(?) were put there.

Nowadays it is a very artistic street:)

love this door!

There is around 190 dwarfs in Wrocław, there is even a map how to find them all....They...
guard the keys...

...ride motors

...build or ruin...;)

...eat pierogi

...make loundry

Druga partia fotek. Tym razem Stare Miasto, Jatki i sławne krasnale.:)

Wow! What an amazing place to have all those dwarfs! They are very amusing and must be fun to search for.... or even more fun to find if you weren't looking for them! It looks like you had fun finding them!

Ewa, what's the significance of having those dwarves all over the city? They are fascinating! How big are they? They look tiny in your pictures.

Specially for you I found their meaning in Google, Sans :P In the 80's last century when Poland was still a communist country there was a group of people in Wrocław who called themselves the Orange Alternative. They were against communism and then authorities. They painted the dwarves on the walls as their symbol. The dwarves usually have nothing in common with the politics so they couldn't be considered as the symbol of fight against the communist authorities but to everyone here at that time the undertone of these paintings was obvious.
They are around 20-25cm tall, I think.:) We saw one much bigger too but of course my camera decided that it's battery was long gone and refused to work then.;)
