"Happy is (s)he who, like Ulysses, has travelled far...."

Jun 17, 2012

A very special Chair. ;) Bardzo wyjątkowe krzesło.;)

Don't know what I did to deserve her trust but she was kind enough to have faith in my skills I had (and still have) no idea about.

This beautiful Lady's first request was a coplete surprise, joy and challenge for me.

And so was the second.

Do you know already who I am writing about? Yup! Our dear dear Sans!:)

At first I thought: "Nooooooooo way!! I can't make something THAT complicated!" I even asked her for the photos of less complicated examples. After all I have never seen this shape on my own eyes.

Still this little strange voice in my head was stubbornly saying "Give it a try! You will be sorry if you don't!". Of course it was adding I can't dissapoint the only Person who has such a big amount of faith in me! So I gave it a try.

Although I sent the photos of it to Sans and she was kind enough to be a bit surprised I made it so quick and she said she liked it.;D
Still I couldn't stop thinking "It is just not good enough and I can't send anything to my dear Friend if I am not satysified with it too!" Why you ask? Because of it:

Yup, the arms are not straight!
So not saying to Sans a word, I made another one. It is a bit different than the first one and the arms are straight(er).;)

And it is white. I decided not to even try to age it as Sans is just an Expert of it. So I left this work to her.;)
The chair is safely at her home now and she wrote she liked it.
Which made me a very happy person.:)

No i nie mogłam zawiesć Sans!Spróbowałam, wysłałam fotki. Sans była zachwycona, ale ja, nie. Dlaczego?

Is your computer all right? Last time when I couldn't comment it was my computer that was broken and I also had to upload new versions of some programms. Hope your problems will be gone soon!

Being the great artist and wonderful lady she is Sans! of course knew exactly why she asked you to fulfil her wish. Your work is breathtaking, I love both versions, but I agree - the unfinished one is perfect for Sans! and her aging skills, being the Queen of Rust... ;O) Great job, dear - and of that little voice of yours!

Greetings
Birgit

OOOH, Gorgeous chairs, Ewa!
I am not surprised at your skills! You have been showing evidence of them ever since I have been looking at your blog!!! :):)
I am always amazed when I make something for the Second time.... how much Better it looks and how much Easier it is to do! By now, I should know that the first effort is for practice..... but have I learned this? No, I still want my first try to be Perfect!
(Your first chair is just as beautiful... but it is uneven because it has been "loved" so much and used so much it has required repairing over the many years of its life!!) There is Always a story in the worn and crooked things...!

Great, great job!

Both chairs are very well made, I would have been pleased to have made them! Slight imperfections can add character to things, so I wouldn't worry about arms on the first chair, I like them both very much!

You know, the aging on that chair is SO realistic, I don't think I want to sit in it. It looks like it's been left out in the rain and started to grow fungus! Great job.
